We are born with the same needs and aspirations. As we grow, we seek safety, respect from others, and the opportunity to express our thoughts and make our own decisions. This is why human rights and freedoms belong to everyone. Regardless of gender, skin colour, or religious belief, we all strive to be heard. Yet, in understanding ourselves, we must also learn to listen to others. This principle forms the foundation of Equality. Through the language of art, the artist communicates a deeply personal vision of the world and shares it with others. Reflecting on equality becomes, in this context, a return to the origins of existence itself. Particular attention is given to the theme of the creation of the world, especially to theories concerning the origins of humanity. Just as there are countless interpretations of human beginnings, there are countless perspectives and voices seeking expression and recognition. Through the lens of these ideas, the artist invites viewers to engage with a personal understanding of Equality. In exploring these themes, the artist turns to the philosophy of the Steady State — a concept that suggests the continuity and eternity of life. Territory, society, family, cultural heritage, rules, and rituals have shaped systems of social inequality. Each person carries their own truth. The artist does not advocate for the destruction or erasure of differing worldviews, recognising that such an approach would lead to disorder. These works are not a form of social protest. Rather, they represent an attempt to explore and articulate identity through visual language, while sharing this understanding with others through openness, dialogue, and mutual recognition. Because although we are different, we are equal. We should not impose our opinions on others. Only through this openness can genuine listening emerge, creating the conditions for dialogue and perhaps a new language of understanding within society. As a recognised icon painter, the artist conveys his vision through symbolism, layered narratives, overlapping temporal dimensions, typography, chromatic symbols, and sacred imagery, combining traditional painting techniques with a contemporary visual language. A fundamental element and symbolic code throughout the works is the colour blue, embedded as an underlying layer in every piece. Blue represents space, honesty, kindness, and fidelity. It also evokes the idea of the indigo person — a future individual with a formed and conscious identity. Equality, mutual understanding, and respect emerge where there is dialogue between identities. The works of Igor Stepanyk are not a protest, but rather a proposition for unity and social cohesion.
